Understanding How LEVOLOR Custom Cellular Shades Help Insulate Your Home

Windows provide a beautiful view to the world outside your home. They also account for a significant amount of your home’s heating and cooling costs. A cellular shade complements the beauty of your home decor, while providing important benefits like insulation and eliminating unwanted air flow. LEVOLOR Custom Cellular shades aren’t just stylish – they help keep your home more comfortable. Here’s how:

  • The fabric's honeycomb shape traps hot and cold air in cellular pockets reducing air flow into your home.
  • The Double Cell option features two layers of cells between your room and the window, providing an additional insulation barrier.
  • Our exclusive Energy Shield™ liner is a thin, clear layer inside the cells that can provide additional year-round insulation.

Factors to consider when selecting your LEVOLOR Custom Cellular Shades:

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)

  • How much solar energy passes into your home. A higher SHGC allows the sun to heat the room. A lower SHGC blocks the sun.

R-Value

  • Your shade’s ability to block cold air in the winter and warm air in the summer. A higher R-value indicates better insulation.

Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF)

  • How well your shade protects from solar UV rays, which can fade furnishings, floors and artwork. UPF ratings range from 15 (good) to 50 (excellent).

LEVOLOR is a member of the Attachments Energy Rating Council (AERC), whose goal is to help consumers make informed decisions about purchasing window attachments to maximize energy savings. Search "AERC" in your Internet browser for more information.

NOTE:

  • Available in cordless, corded, and continuous cord loop operating systems.
  • Top-Down/Bottom-Up and Day/Night options are available.
  • Order the left shade first when placing the order.
  • Each shade operates separately.
  • There will be a gap between the fabric on the left and right shades to operate independently.
  • Desired gap width is selected at time of ordering.
  • Minimum gap width is 1⁄4 in. maximum gap width is 2 1⁄2 in.
  • For standard Bottom-Up shades, controls will be located on the left side of the left shade and the right side of the right shade.
  • The left shade width plus the right shade width plus the inner gap width must equal the overall shade width.
  • Fabrics cannot be seamed or overlapped.
  • Always use a metal tape measure as cloth may stretch.
  • Take all measurements to the nearest 1⁄8 in. DO NOT take any deductions.
  • The factory will make the necessary adjustments to help ensure your shade operates smoothly.

*WIDTH CRITICAL DIMENSIONS

  • Smallest panel size for a 2-on-1 is the same as all single shade limits, see critical dimensions page for details.
  • Largest panel size for a 2-on-1 is the maximum width minus the minimum panel size. Limitations vary by operating system.

NOTE: Take all measurements to the nearest 1/8 in. DO NOT take any deductions. The factory will make the necessary adjustments to help ensure your shadings operate smoothly.

Minimum Depth Requirements for Proper Shade Installation (inches)

Corded 5/8" 2 1/2"
Continuous Cord Loop 1/2" 2 1/8"
Cordless 1/2" 2 1/8"

Use the above chart to verify that you have adequate window depth for mounting.

Before you begin your installation:

Read all installation instructions!

  • Make sure that you have all tools and hardware needed for installation.
  • Check the installation surface (wall, ceiling, or window frame) to ensure that you have suitable fasteners and tools for the material.
  • Double check the headrail and shade for proper width and length. If you are installing several sets of shades, be sure to match them with the appropriate window.
  • Check the parts list shipped with the product to confirm that you have the correct number of brackets.

Tools You May Need (not included):

  • Metal Tape Measure
  • Screwdrivers (both flat and Phillips head)
  • 1/4" Nutdriver
  • Safety Glasses
  • Drywall Anchors
  • Pencil
  • Drill with Bits
  • Level
  • Ladder

Step 1 - Inside Mount

Marking the Bracket Locations

IMPORTANT: Before marking bracket locations, ensure that your bracket placement will not interfere with any components inside the headrail.

  • Verify that your window casing has a minimum depth of ½" which allows for a partially recessed headrail mount.
  • If flush mount (fully recessed mount) is desired, a minimum mounting depth of 2 1⁄8" is required.
  • Mark 1-2" inches from each jamb for bracket location.
  • With a pencil, mark the longer, oblong drill hole locations through the top of the holes of the bracket, 2 holes per bracket.
  • If more than two installation brackets come with your order, space additional bracket(s) evenly between the two end brackets, no more than 30" apart, and mark drill hole locations.

Step 1 - Outside Mount

Marking the Bracket Locations

IMPORTANT: Before marking bracket locations, ensure that your bracket placement will not interfere with any components inside the headrail.

IMPORTANT: The rear of the brackets must be flush against a flat mounting surface. Do NOT mount brackets on curved molding.

  • Center the headrail over the window opening at the desired height.
  • Use a pencil to lightly mark each end of the headrail. Alternatively, measure the width of the headrail and use that width to mark the headrail end points over the window opening.
  • Mark approximately 1 - 2" in from each end of headrail for the installation bracket locations. Allow a minimum of 1⁄4 in. between the bottom of the installation bracket and the top of the window molding.
  • With a pencil, mark the installation brackets or extension bracket screw locations through the larger, oblong rear holes of the bracket, 2 screws per bracket.
  • Use a level to ensure all brackets are aligned.
  • If more than two installation brackets come with your order, space additional bracket(s) evenly between the two end brackets, no more than 30" apart, and mark drill hole locations.

Step 2 - Inside Mount

Installing the Brackets

  • Pre-drill screw holes using a 1⁄16" drill bit (wood and metal mounting surfaces only) using pencil marks as a guide.
  • Hold the bracket with the surface marked “Top” facing up. Line up the pre-drilled screw holes and the longer, oblong holes in the bracket.
  • While holding the bracket in place, secure the bracket with screws, 2 screws per bracket.
  • Repeat for each bracket.
  • Ensure all brackets are square with each other.

Step 2 - Outside Mount

Installing the Brackets

IMPORTANT: Use drywall anchors when mounting into drywall (not provided).

IMPORTANT: The rear of the brackets must be flush against a flat mounting surface. Do NOT mount brackets on curved molding.

  • Pre-drill screw holes using a 1⁄16" drill bit, using pencil marks as a guide.
  • Hold the bracket with the surface marked "Top" so that it is facing upwards and then line up the pre-drilled screw holes with the holes in the bracket.
Note: If using spacer blocks: Stack spacer blocks on the back side of the installation brackets. See page 15 for additional details.
CAUTION: Do not use more than one spacer block. Using more than one spacer block could cause shade to fall resulting in possible injury.
  • While holding the bracket in place, secure with screws, 2 screws per bracket.
  • Repeat for each bracket.
  • Use a level to confirm all brackets are level.

Step 3 - Inside Mount

Installing the Shade

  • Hang the curved front side of the headrail on the front lip of the brackets.
  • Rotate the headrail backwards toward the window until a snapping sound is heard. This will let you know the shade is engaged in the brackets.
  • Repeat for each bracket.
  • Secure cord tension device.
  • CAUTION: Be sure the bracket and headrail are properly secured before operating the shade. Failure to do so may result in the shade falling and possible injury.

Step 3 - Outside Mount

Installing the Shade

  • Hang the curved front side of the headrail on the front lip of the brackets.
  • Rotate the headrail backwards toward the window until a snapping sound is heard. This will let you know the shade is engaged in the brackets.
  • Secure cord tension device
  • CAUTION: Be sure the bracket and headrail are properly secured before operating the shade. Failure to do so may result in the shade falling and possible injury.

Cellular Hardware Colour Coordination Guide

Coordinating hardware colours are pre-selected based on fabric colour. The colour samples below represent headrail, bottom rail, end cap, and tassel colours.

The Fabric Index chart on the following page identifies which hardware colour number matches each fabric colour.

Note: The actual colour of the hardware may vary from the samples in the colour coordination guide
Colour lot variations may occur with fabric and/or hardware due to the process of colour application.
For the best colour match, order all shades for a room at the same time. Pattern availability and colour lot match between orders cannot be assured.

Cleaning and Care

All LEVOLOR Cellular Shades are made of 100% polyester and with multiple cleaning options, these easy to care for shades will maintain their beautiful appearance for years to come.

Note: Improper cleaning may void warranty

Dusting - Use a feather duster for regular cleaning.

Vacuuming - Use a low suction vacuum with a brush-type cleaner attachment; stroke lightly over the shade to clean.

Forced Air - Blow away dirt and debris using clean compressed air.

Spot-Cleaning/Stain Removal at Home - Use warm water and a mild soap, like Woolite® or Scotchgard®, if needed.

Professional Injection/Extraction Cleaning - Call local on-site blind/shade cleaner that injects a cleaning solution into the fabric and extracts the dirty solution at the same time. The service is typically performed at home so you do not need to remove your window treatments.
