    • Do I need to hire a professional installer?
      • While you may choose to hire a professional installer our Custom Shutters are a DIY product and can be installed with basic tools and skills. For instructions and videos on how to install, please visit the how to install.

    • What is the difference between all the different frame types?
      • Decorative frames bring style and functionality to your windows. Some frames are designed for inside mount application and attach directly to the inside of the window opening, while outside mount frames are mounted outside the window frame and are attached directly to the wall. Outside mount frames completely cover the window molding. Choosing the right frame is a matter of personal preference as well as the mounting type and depth allowed by your window.

    • What is the difference between louver sizes?
      • Louvered shutters for Levolor Shutters are available in 2 1/2 inches, 3 1/2 inches and 4 1/2 inches. The wider the louver, the wider the space between louvers will be when they're fully open. Louvers measuring 3 1/2 inches provide 56% greater visibility than their smaller counterparts. Similarly, the 4 1/2 inch louvers, known as shutters, provide a view that's 108% more clear than the 2 1/2 inch louvers. In addition to visibility, window depth needs to be considered when selecting a louver size.

    • Do shutters increase the value of my home?
      • Shutters help in two ways. They increase the curb-appeal on any home and likely increase the number of people who will consider purchasing. It's also been estimated that they will increase your homes appraisal value by several percentage points.

    • What are the different parts of a shutter called?
        • Louvers
          • Louvers are the blades of the shutters, and come in sizes ranging from 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 inches.
        • Tilt Bar
          • The Tilt Bar can be on the front of the shutter (usually centered), or hidden in the rear if using the UltraClearview® hidden rear tilt system. Either way, it controls how you open and close the shutters.
        • Top and bottom rails
          • The Top and Bottom Rails outline the shutters and contain the louvers between them.
        • Divider rail (personal preference)
          • The Divider Rail runs through the center of some shutters, depending on size. When there is a divider rail, the top and bottom louvers operate independently of each other, allowing for the top to be open and the bottom closed, for example. A divider rail can be selected based on preference and is required on shutters that exceed a height of 66”.
        • Frame
          • The Frame surrounds the shutter and finishes off the decorative look of the window.
    • Why don't my shutter stay closed or are difficult to close?
      • LEVOLOR Custom Shutters come with panel locks that are located at the top and bottom of a shutter panel. They are used to keep panels securely closed and can also be used to level the panel.

        • To adjust the Panel Lock system using a flat head screwdriver, #2 Robinson Bit, or a Squarehead Bit to adjust the plungers.
        • Push in on the plunger and rotate clockwise to thread the plunger into the panel or rotate the plunger counterclockwise to extend the plunger.
