How to Measure

Our step-by-step instructions make it easy to take accurate measurements and get the right fit.

How to Measure

Measure For Inside Mounting

Measuring For Inside Mount Sheer Shadings

For a beautiful framed look

Find Width:

Measure to the nearest 1/8 in. between inside surfaces of window frame; at the top, middle, and bottom. Record the narrowest width of the three.

Find Height:

Measure to the nearest 1/8 in. from inside surface at top of window to top of sill; at the left, middle, and right. Record the tallest height of the three.

Find Depth:

Measure exact depth of window casing making note of any obstacles i.e. handles, tracks or cranks that could interfere with the blind or shade function. Use the shortest depth.

Measure For Outside Mounting

Measuring For Outside Mount Sheer Shadings

For increased light control and privacy

Find Width:

Measure to the nearest 1/8 in. between outermost points where shade is to be placed. Measurement should overlap each side of window frame by at least 1 1/2 in.

Find Height:

Measure to the nearest 1/8 in. from where top of shade will be located to top of sill, or measure to point of shade reach if no sill.

How to Measure Two Shades on One Headrail (2-on-1 Headrail)

INSIDE MOUNT (IM) INSTALLATION

    MEASURE WIDTH*

Overall Shade Width - Measure to the nearest 1/8 in. between inside surfaces of window frame; at the top, middle, and bottom. Record the narrowest width of the three.

Left Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the left shade to cover.

Right Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the right shade to cover.

Measure For Multiple Blinds per Headrail

MEASURE HEIGHT

Overall Shade Height - Measure to the nearest 1/8 in. from inside surface at top of window to top of sill; at the left, middle and right. Record the tallest height of the three.

MEASURE DEPTH*

Overall Shade Depth - Measure exact depth of window casing making note of any obstacles i.e. handles, tracks or cranks that could interfere with the blind or shade function.
Use the shortest depth.

OUTSIDE MOUNT (0M) INSTALLATION

    MEASURE WIDTH*

Overall Shade Width - Measure to the nearest 1/8 in. between outermost points where shade is to be placed. Measurement should overlap each side of window frame at lease 1-1/2 in.

Left Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the left shade to cover.

Right Shade Width - Measure the width that you want the right shade to cover.

    MEASURE HEIGHT

Overall Shade Height - Measure to the nearest 1/8 in. from where top of shade will be located to top of sill, or measure to point of shade reach if no sill.

NOTE:

  • Available in continuous cord loop and retractable cord operating systems.
  • Order the left shade first when placing the order.
  • Each shade operates separately.
  • There will be a 3/8 in. gap between the fabric on the left and right shades to operate independently.
  • For standard shades, controls will be located on the left side of the left shade and the right side of the right shade.
  • The left shade width plus the right shade width must equal the overall shade width.*
  • Fabrics cannot be seamed or overlapped.
  • Always use a metal tape measure as cloth may stretch.
  • Take all measurements to the nearest 1/8 in. DO NOT take any deductions. The factory will make the necessary adjustments to help ensure your shadings operate smoothly.

*WIDTH CRITICAL DIMENSIONS

  • The panels of fabric for a 2-on-1 shade can be equal widths or varying widths.
  • The smallest panel width is 12 in. and maximum panel width is 108 in. with the overall size not to exceed 120 in.
  • If you choose to do two different size panels of fabric, the width of the smaller panel needs to be a minimum of 1/4 the width of the overall width.
  • Overall width of shade ÷ 4 = the smallest panel must be greater than or equal to this value.
  • Example: If you order a shade with an overall width of 80 in. the smaller panel must be at least 20 in.

NOTE: Take all measurements to the nearest 1/8 in. DO NOT take any deductions. The factory will make the necessary adjustments to help ensure your shadings operate smoothly.

Minimum Mounting Surface

  Cordless, Retractable Cord, or

Motorized with Standard Battery Pack Motorized with Satellite Battery Pack
(IM) Minimum Casement Depth 1" 2" 1 1/4"
(IM) Casement Depth Fully Recessed 3 1/4" 4" 3 1/2"
(OM) Minimum Surface Area 1" 1" 1"
(OM) Recommend Width Overlap per side 3" 3" 3"
(SM) Minimum Surface Depth 1 1/4" 2 1/8" 1 1/2"

Use the above chart to verify that you have adequate window depth for mounting.

NOTE: A minimum of 1-1/8 in. flat surface area is required for installation brackets. A minimum of 1 1⁄4 in. flat surface area is required for extension brackets.

Your order will include the correct number of installation brackets based on shade purchased and correct number of spacers equal to 3⁄4 in. to accommodate battery pack. 3 3⁄16 in. extension brackets are available providing added clearance and allow shade to operate around obstructions. Must be requested at time of ordering.
